An ADMK member surrenders in connection to murdering a DMK functionary in Chennai!

Amid the lookout issued by the Chennai police to nab the assailants who murdered the DMK functionary in Chennai on Sunday- April 3, an ADMK member and four others have now surrendered in connection to the crime, a day after it occurred. The incident has happened on Sunday outside the bustling Broadway bus station in the city. The police have suspected the political enmity behind the crime.

According to reports, 58-year-old J Soundarajaran had recently joined the DMK from ADMK. As a functionary of the state ruling party, he was running a juice shop inside the Broadway bus station. On Sunday, amid the scathing heat, a group of men had hacked him to death. It has been reported that Soundarajan and a few others were in the process of installing a shed near the bus stop to distribute drinking water to passersby. While they were setting up, a group of four men, who came on two bikes and with weapons, had surrounded Soundararajan.

After seeing them with weapons, Soundararajan and others had attempted to flee the place. But the armed men had surrounded him and stabbed him several times in his face and neck. The assailants had left the spot and based on the information about the crime, the police officials from the Flower Bazaar police station had arrived at the spot and taken Soundararajan, who was brutally attacked, to the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for further treatment.

However, the doctors had declared him brought dead. The incident has become the talk of the town and Soundarajan's family, friend, and the local DMK cadres, had alleged that the accused ADMK functionary was behind the attack. Senior DMK leaders including Chief Minister MK Stalin and DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan had expressed condolences to Soundararajan's family. The Chennai police said that two special teams led by Assistant Commissioners had been installed to apprehend the assailants.

Earlier, speaking to IANS, Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal said, "We are on the lookout for the assailants. Police are also probing into the altercation the deceased had a few days ago with a group of ADMK men over the construction of the watershed to distribute drinking water to passersby. The police are not leaving any stone unturned and the angle of his alleged enmity is also being probed."

On the front of why the police suspect the involvement of the ADMK men behind the crime, the reports say that the police strongly suspect Soundararajan as the victim of political enmity as he had joined DMK from ADMK a few months ago. In ADMK, he was a district-level functionary and the local ADMK leaders and workers had developed a feud with Soundararajan after he joined the DMK. IANS has quoted the police saying that Soundararajan had a heated argument in public recently with the district-level functionary of the ADMK.

As they suspected, it has come to the revelation that the ADMK men were behind the crime. According to our sources, ADMK member Ganesan, his son Dinesh Kumar, and three others have on Monday surrendered before the Chengalpattu court. The police team has apprehended them and taken them into custody for further investigations into the crime.
