The Tamil Nadu police have on Thursday - January 20 arrested an ADMK leader under the charges of sexually harassing a woman, who is the wife of a physically disabled man. The shocking incident has happened in the Perambalur district and he was also accused of threatening the woman and intimidating her to have a sexual affair with him.
The affected woman had filed a complaint with the police following which the cops have apprehended him under their custody. According to reports, 48-year-old Vinoth has been serving as the ADMK's Secretary in Poolampatti in Perambalur. The 40-year-old affected woman has filed a complaint against him at the Arumbavur police station in the district and in her complaint, she has said that Vinoth had harassed her sexually several times and he went on to threaten her at knifepoint and force her to cooperate with him.
The woman's husband is a physically disabled person and she runs a gas agency in the area. In her complaint, she further alleged that Vinoth had intimidated her that he would set her on fire along with her gas agency if she refuses to cooperate with him. After going through incessant torture from Vinoth, the woman had decided to approach the police and file a complaint against the ADMK leader.
She had then lodged a complaint with the Arumbavur police department and sought the police to take action against Vinoth for his obnoxious conduct. Based on her complaint, the police have filed an FIR against Vinoth under sections 341- wrongful restraint, 354 A - sexual harassment, 354 B- use of criminal force and 506 (ii) - criminal intimidation of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.
The police had then arrested Vinoth on Thursday for sexually harassing a woman and lodged him at the station. The reports say that the officials have begun the process of remanding him under judicial custody for further investigations. Vinoth already has a police case in Perambalur on the grounds of cheating and swindling money through giving fake promises of arranging government jobs.
