In a shocking piece of news, veteran actress Meena's husband Vidyasagar has passed away on Tuesday- June 28 at the age of 48 in Chennai due to post-Covid complications. The news of his demise got swift attention across and beyond the borders as thousands of fans and fraternities have been paying tribute to the deceased soul and expressing condolences to the family of the veteran actress.
Meena rose to prominence in the cinema industry by playing the female lead in multi-lingual movies. She has been a quintessential artist in the industry and she shared screen space with the legendary stars and doyen of the industry. In 2009, she tied the knot with Vidyasagar and the couple had been residing in Bengaluru. They have a child named Nainika, who made her debut in the movie by acting as the daughter of actor Vijay in 'Theri', helmed by Atlee.
For the past few months, Vidyasagar has been suffering from a lung infection, which further worsened when he contracted the Covid-19 pandemic this March. Though he got recovered from the pandemic, the complications from the infection had put him in the fight for survival. The reports say that Vidyasagar was also ailing from kidney-related ailments for a long time. He had been getting treated at a private hospital in Chennai for several weeks.
During his hospitalization, it was planned to carry out a lung transplant surgery for Vidyasagar. However, the hospital incurred more delay in acquiring the fitting lungs due to which the doctors had decided to treat the infection without performing surgery. Unfortunately, his health had been deteriorating and he was not responding to the treatment as expected. On Tuesday, Vidyasagar endured a health setback and eventually, he breathed his last at around 7 pm on June 28.
The reports say that Vidyasagar could have caught the lung infection after inhaling the air infected with the odour of Pigeon's excreta. The couple was residing close to a flock of pigeons. Vidyasagar was 48 when he breathed his last and after learning about his demise, hundreds of thousands of fans and fraternities are expressing their shock over the untimely demise and solacing Meena over a tragic loss.

Veteran actor Sarath Kumar took to Twitter and wrote, "It is shocking to hear the news of the untimely demise of Actor Meena's husband Vidyasagar, our family's heartfelt condolences to Meena and the near and dear of her family, may his soul rest in peace." Actress Lakshmi Manchu wrote, "Woke up to devastating news of Meena garu's husband, Vidyasagar garu passed away due to Covid complications. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the entire family."
Actor Jayam Ravi wrote, "RIP my friend Sagar. You fought so bravely. My heart goes out to Meena and Nainika. Our prayers to overcome this loss." Several stars, political leaders, and government officials have expressed their tribute. Veteran politician Vijayakanth has solaced the actress and a slew of stars has been visiting Meena's residence in Little Mount, Chennai and paying homage to the deceased.
Superstar Rajinikanth has visited the residence and offered his condolences to Meena. The visuals from the scene have been shared rampantly on social media. Meena has started her career as a child artist and went on to act with top stars including Rajinikanth. Currently, she has been featuring in character roles predominantly in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam movies. Some of her recent notable roles were in Mohanlal starred 'Drishyam 2' and in Rajinikanth's starred 'Annaatthe'. Vidyasagar's mortal remains would be cremated at 2 pm on Wednesday in Besant Nagar, Chennai.
