Tamil Nadu BJP unit has become a political haven for Tamil celebrities as dozens of notable celebrities of the Tamil cinema industry have joined the Central ruling party in recent times and powered the saffron camp as the star campaigners for the assembly polls. In line with that, veteran actor Senthil has joined the club after he showered his allegiance to BJP.
Senthil, who is a reputed comedian known for presenting everlasting laughter to the fans and audiences, has on Thursday joined BJP in the presence of BJP Tamil Nadu President L Murugan and National Secretary CT Ravi. The development has come when the state is three weeks ahead of the assembly polls. According to reports, Senthil can be named as one of the star campaigners of the party for the assembly polls.
Senthil met Murugan and joined the party in BJP Tamil Nadu headquarters 'Kamalalayam' in T Nagar, Chennai in the presence of senior leaders. While addressing the reporters after joining the BJP, Senthil said, "I was with ADMK since 1988 till Jayalalithaa's demise and I was a star campaigner". Speaking about why he decided to join the party, Senthil said, "I thought of going to a good party and I directly joined BJP as BJP is a good party and is a party for future".
"I arrived at a decision that people will get what they deserve to get. So, I have joined BJP. Many people will come and join. People will not believe any parties other than BJP and people will come to a decision that BJP will come to power", Senthil added and he further said that he will be campaigning for the BJP candidates in the assembly polls.
With Senthil in the club, BJP had added one more number to the total number of celebrities in the party. Some of the celebrities include Khushbu Sundar, Gautami, Namitha, Gayathri Raghuram, Radha Ravi, SV Sekar, Power star Srinivasan, musician Gangai Amaran, and actor Suresh. Recently, legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan's son Ramkumar had joined the Central ruling party, and now veteran comedian Senthil had boarded the saffron ship. Senthil had begun his politics by entering ADMK and after the demise of Jayalalithaa, he had joined Dhinakaran's AMMK, and now he has joined BJP.
In the absence of political giants Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa, BJP hopes to have a political breakthrough in Tamil Nadu and it has rolled out the drive of fishing the celebrities to its ship as one of the electoral agendas, with the hope that the fleet of celebrities would take the party and its ideology close to the people. The BJP has planned to use celebrities as the star campaigners in the upcoming assembly polls.
BJP has inked a deal with the Tamil Nadu ruling ADMK for the upcoming polls and ADMK has offered 20 assembly seats and Kanyakumari Lok Sabha seat for a by-election in the upcoming polls and on Wednesday, BJP had released the list of 20 constituencies and the party has picked the seats from across the state and it has been expected that the BJP will release the list of candidates in these 20 constituencies soon and some of these celebrities would likely a get a ticket to contest in the polls. Tamil Nadu will go to the single-phase polls on April 6 and the votes will be counted on May 2, during which the results will be announced.
