Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has on Sunday wrapped up his Dubai tour and he is all set for another big day in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. He has arrived in Abu Dhabi from Dubai with an agenda of meeting investors and signing the Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs). MK Stalin is on his first overseas trip since taking the office and he had multiple takeaways in his four-day tour.
According to reports, MK Stalin will be meeting the investors of the Royal Family in Abu Dhabi on Monday- March 28 and would invite them to invest in Tamil Nadu. It would be the second leg of his drive of attracting Emirati investments as he has had a similar meeting in Dubai. The Chief Minister said that the Tamil Nadu government will ink MOUs with Kerala-based Lulu Group, which is in the business of commercial malls and operates a chain of hypermarkets and retail companies.
Founded in 2000 by MA Yusuff Ali from the Thrissur district of Kerala, the Lulu group is now headquartered in Abu Dhabi. In his letter written to the party cadres on Sunday, MK Stalin has said that Yusuff Ali has been very supportive during his tour and noted that he is keen on investing in Tamil Nadu on behalf of his firm. The Chief Minister further said, "The ruling DMK will be a protective shield for Tamils wherever they live. The government is determined to woo investment from many countries for the development of Tamil Nadu."
"That way, the trip to Emirates has been a complete success", he added. Taking a jibe at the previous ADMK regime, Stalin said that his government is not signing MOUs in the fashion of managing accounts but facilitating growth in Tamil Nadu. His letter was addressed to the party cadres and he has asserted that he has signed a handful of agreements and has obtained investments for Tamil Nadu through his visit. He noted that his Dubai and Abu Dhabi visits were meant to remove the darkness spread by the ADMK regime for the past ten years.
He said that he has participated in several events and signed memoranda of understanding to bring investments to the state. "Though few people had criticized my visit to keep their presence in light, the public, as well as the members of other political parties, are appreciating my efforts. Even opposition party members are lauding my trip to woo foreign investors immediately after the budget session", Stalin added.
Highlighting his conversation with Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulaiman, the Chief of DP World, on his first day of the visit, Stalin said he had asked if there were any obstacles for investing in Tamil Nadu. "Sulaiman responded there was none. I told him that my objective was to ensure absolute industrial growth for Tamil Nadu and not just to sign MOUs", Stalin added. It must be noted that DP World has signed an MoU for investing Rs 2000 crore in Tamil Nadu after DMK came to power.
During his Dubai visit, MK Stalin met UAE's Minister for Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri and External Commerce Minister Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. The Chief Minister has discussed with the UAE ministers various topics including enhancing ties between small and medium industries of the UAE and Tamil Nadu and cooperation in the areas of agriculture, industrial ecosystem, food technology, textiles, jewels and precious stones, automobiles, electronics, and renewable energy.
