59-year-old man in UP, who was suffering from COVID-19, Black, White, and Yellow fungus infections passed away!

In a dreadful development, a 59-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh, who was diagnosed with COVID-19, Black, White, and Yellow fungus infections, has on Friday passed away, becoming the first victim in India to die with all the four infections, that are threatening India. The quinquagenarian has breathed his last in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

According to PTI, Dr BP Tyagi, an ENT Specialist at Harsh Hospital in Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad, said, "Kunwar Singh was under treatment but passed away due to toxaemia (blood poisoning by toxins) at 7.30 pm on Friday". The reports say that Singh, a lawyer by profession, was recently tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection.

On May 24, Singh was diagnosed with three fungal infections and he had been receiving medical treatment for the diseases. However, he had passed away on Friday. India has been in a state of fret over the emergence of various deadliest diseases amid battling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fungal infections are targeting people who are suffering from diabetes and having low immunity.

While black fungus cases have been getting reported in many states across the country with the Indian government declaring the black fungus as a notifiable disease, the state of Uttar Pradesh is the only state in India that had reported yellow fungus cases so far. Several state governments are initiating measures to tackle the spread of fungal infections.

While black fungus infection, which is also known as Mucormycosis,  and white fungus or candidiasis were known to affect humans prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, yellow fungus infections have previously only been reported in reptiles. India has reported nearly 12,000 cases of Black Fungus infection so far as of Friday. While COVID-19 is a transmissive disease, the three fungal infections are non-communicable and Yellow Fungus infection is said to be the most dangerous disease than the other two fungal infections.
