In a shocking development, a 46-year-old teacher in Delhi had committed suicide over non-payment of salary by the school where he was working. The deceased was identified as Tanoop Johar and he used to work in a school as a Taekwondo coach and he had been unemployed for over a year. It was said that the school had failed to pay the pending salary to Johar and after several battles to get the outstanding dues, he had taken an extreme step of ending his life.
According to reports, Johar was found hanging inside his house by his family members on Tuesday. He was living in outer Delhi's Mangolapuri and after learning about the incident, the police had arrived at his residence and recovered his body, and launched a probe into his death. The police officials had also recovered Johar's suicide note in which he had mentioned two names of the school management and accused the school authorities of not paying his pending salary.
He further wrote that he was disturbed because the school had failed to disperse his pending salary as he was unemployed. Deputy Commissioner of Police Parvinder Singh has said that Johar had not been working at the school for more than a year now. He stated that all the allegations are being looked into and the matter is under inquiry.
The police had further said Johar had also filed a case in the labour court against the school management last year over non-payment of salary. The reports say that the school was run by a former BJP MLA and his wife. The family members had said that Johar was taking online classes from his home but he was upset over the non-payment of his salary. He had written to school authorities about the issue but he didn't receive his pending salary.
According to PTI, one of Johar's colleagues said that Johar was taking online classes since March last year during the lockdown. However, he later had discontinued over a dispute with the school management over non-payment of his pending salary. His colleagues too haven't got their pending salaries and when Johar initially asked for the salary from the management, he was told to wait for some time and when he asked for the salary after four months, the school management had asked him to resign.
Johar then developed a dispute with the management and he quit the school. He had then approached a labour court for the pending salary. His colleague had said that they had written to the school management about the issue but the management is still yet to pay the pending salary for the staff and some of them had moved to the court against the management. However, they are still waiting for their pending salaries.
