The bond that Indians have with Biryani is getting boundless as the fashion of eating biryani among Indians hasn't got plunged for years. As we are counting days to close the year 2023, Swiggy, which is one of the country's leading food delivery platforms, has revealed what has India ordered the most during the current year. While biryani undoubtedly tops the list, the current trend appears that most of the people breathed biryani throughout the year.
Swiggy released its year-end 2023 trends, which revealed that biryani remains as India's favourite food to order online for the eighth consecutive year. As per its report, 2.5 biryanis were ordered per second in 2023 and the number of times users just searched for biryani on the app was 40,30,827 times. Furthermore, for every 5.5 chicken biryani ordered, one vegetarian biryani was ordered.
Additionally, about 2.49 million users influxed newly on the Swiggy app with a biryani order. Hyderabad topped the list with more orders for biryani and astonishingly, a person from Hyderabad has ordered biryani 1,633 times this year, which comes to around four biryanis a day on an average. Every sixth biryani order in Hyderabad came from this customer.
What is more astounding is a customer from Mumbai spent over 4 million for food orders on Swiggy in 2023. According to its report, this customer has spent Rs 42.3 lakh for food orders and on the other hand, a family in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, had ordered 207 pizzas, which marked the highest number of pizza orders this year.
The maximum number of orders were placed by customers from Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi, who placed more than 10,000 orders each. Notably, the biggest party order came from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, with a customer placing an order with 269 items. Swiggy's report has further shown that on October 14, during the India vs Pakistan World Cup match, a family in Chandigarh had ordered 70 plates of biryani.
During the clash of the arch-rivals of the cricket, Swiggy report that 250 orders for biryani were placed per minute on that day. During the World Cup finals, Swiggy received 188 orders of pizza per minute and besides biryani and pizza, the online platform has also shared the love of Indians on other food items and on Swiggy Instamart.
Masala Dosa was one of the favourite items in veg orders during the Navaratri festivals and a customer from Hyderabad spent 6 lakhs on ordering Idli throughout the year. As far as Swiggy Instamart is concerned, a user from Jaipur, Rajasthan has placed a whopping 67 orders on Instamart in a single day, while the single highest order Instamart received this year was Rs 31,748 from a user in Chennai who ordered coffee, juice, cookies, nachos, and chips.
