A 24-year-old Chennai doctor, who treated COVID-19 patients, commits suicide!

In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old doctor, who was attached to the Government Stanley Medical College in Chennai, has committed suicide and died in the wee hours of Monday. 

The deceased doctor had been treating COVID-19 patients who were admitted to the hospital. According to the reports, the doctor was identified as Kannan and is a native of Udumalaipettai, Tirupur district in Tamil Nadu. He had joined Stanley Medical College in June as an orthopedic postgraduate doctor. 

He was seen attending the patients till 1.30 am on Monday and then he went to his room which sits on the third floor of the hostel. However, around 4 am, some of the doctors found him lying on the ground with several fractures. They informed the authorities and rushed him to the hospital for treatment. 

The authorities informed the police department about the incident. Dr.Kannan was then declared dead. The police said that he had jumped from the third floor where his room was located. Some of the internal groups of the doctors said that Kannan had committed suicide owing to the work pressure.

However, the initial investigations of police had revealed that he was enduring a lot of stress due to the personal and financial problems. The police had denied the allegations of work pressure and they launched the probe into his death. The reports say that the FIR has filed under section 174 -unnatural death of the CrPC. 

According to the police, the deceased doctor hadn't left any suicide note. The body has been sent for the autopsy and the police had informed Kannan's parents. 

Kannan is unmarried and he had completed his MBBS from the Government Medical College in Thanjavur and joined Government Stanley Medical College in June 2020.
