In a tragic event that got added to the list of such incidents witnessed by the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras (IIT-M), a 20-year-old student of the prestigious institution died by suicide inside the campus. The police have launched the probe and the management has expressed its grief over the death.
According to reports, 20-year-old Subhransu Sekhar was a B.Tech student of IIT-M. As he was a native of Odisha, he was staying at the institution's hostel inside the campus. It has been reported that he had scored fewer marks in the earlier semesters. On Thursday, he ended his life by hanging in his hostel room. The incident came to light when the door wasn't opened for a long time.
Sekhar's roommates found that the door of his room 215 in the Tapti hostel was locked till evening following which they alerted the warden. The door was broken and Sekhar was found hanging from the ceiling. Shocked by the incident, the Kotturpuram police were informed and the officials rushed to the spot. The cops recovered the body and sent it to Government Royapettah Hospital to conduct an autopsy.
The police found no suicide note, Sekhar's friends divulged to the investigating officers that he was in depression and stayed isolated for the past two days. He has now died by suicide and in a statement, IIT Madras said that it shares the grief of the friends and family of the student.
