COVID-19: With the biggest spike of 6,988 cases, TN's tally has crossed 2 lakh!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 6,988 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday taking the state's total tally beyond 2 lakh by reporting 2,06,737 positive cases so far including active, recovered, and deceased patients. 

The current reporting of 6,988 fresh cases has been recorded as the highest single-day rise since the outbreak, surpassing the previous tally of 6,785 cases that were reported on Friday. The state has reported more than 6000 cases for the third consecutive day with each day's tally surpassing the other with the biggest spikes of the COVID-19 cases. 

According to the official press release issued by the state Health Department, Tamil Nadu has tested 22,87,334 samples so far including 64,315 that were tested on Saturday of which 6,988 returned positive for the virus. These 6,988 positive cases include the influx of 62 people who returned to Tamil Nadu from other regions. 

Of these 6,988 cases, 4,164 are males and the rest 2,824 are female patients. According to the press release, 20 districts have recorded major caseloads in the current reporting. Chennai has reported 1,329 cases, 449 cases belong to Chengalpattu, 442 cases belong to Kancheepuram, 385 cases belong to Thiruvallur, 376 cases belong to Virudhunagar, 317 cases from Thoothukudi, 301 cases belong to Madurai, and 270 cases from Coimbatore. 

Kanyakumari has reported 269 cases, 244 cases belong Ranipet, 235 cases from Theni, 212 each from Tirunelveli and Vellore, 199 cases belong to Trichy, 162 cases from Thanjavur, 157 cases from Villupuram, 152 cases from Tiruvannamalai, 110 cases from Pudukottai, 104 cases from Kallakurichi, and 100 cases from Thiruvarur. The state has reported 7,758 fresh discharges- highest since the outbreak, taking the total tally of discharges to 1,51,055 so far. 

The state has also recorded 89 fresh deaths through which the death toll currently stands at 3,409. According to the press release, of these 89 deaths, 66 were reported from the government hospitals and the rest 23 were reported from the private establishments. Of these 89 deaths, 20 belong to Chennai and 84 out of 89 deaths were reported with co-morbid conditions, largely diabetes, and hypertension. 

With the current reporting of 1,329 cases, Chennai has recorded 93,537 cases so far of which 77,625 have been discharged. As of Saturday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,06,737 cases so far of which 52,273 are active, 1,51,055 have been recovered, and 3,409 had succumbed to the virus.
