A patient in Rajasthan dies after his family members plug out ventilator to connect air cooler!

Ventilators are the able mechanisms that are used to meet the oxygen supply for the patients who are at the critical stage, but a family in Rajasthan has gone to the extent of plugging out the ventilator to plug in the air cooler to meet the hotty air in the COVID-19 isolation ward, and the outcome is that the ventilator ran out of power and the patient has died. 

According to the reports, a 40-year-old man has died at the government hospital in Kota, Rajasthan after his family members allegedly unplugged the ventilator the patient was on to connect the air cooler and the shocking incident had let the hospital management to install a committee for probing the matter. 

The deceased was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the Maharao Bhim Singh Hospital in Kota on June 13 after he developed positive symptoms for COVID-19. His samples were collected and the test results returned negative. However, he was shifted to the isolation ward of the hospital on June 15 after one of the patients in the ICU tested positive for the virus.

He was getting treated at the isolation ward with ventilator support. But his family members were ought to manage the hot air in the isolation ward for which they bought an air cooler on the same day when he was moved to the separate ward. However, they found that they have no socket available to plug in the air cooler.

Following which, they allegedly plugged out the ventilator the patient was on and they connected the cooler in the socket to meet the hot air. After 30 minutes, they found that the ventilator lost the power after which they informed doctors about the incident. The medical team rushed to the ward and performed Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the patient. 

However, he was declared dead and the incident had sparked attention from the hospital management. The reports stated that the superintendent of the hospital has installed a three-member committee consisting of the chief medical officer on duty, deputy superintendent, and nursing superintendent to probe the matter and the committee will be submitting the report on Saturday. 

According to the reports, the probing committee has obtained the statements of the medical staff at duty in the isolation ward when the incident happened and the hospital superintendent has said that the action would be taken against the responsible and the family members didn't obtain permission to install air -cooler and they had misbehaved with the medical staff and not co-operative with the probing team.
